Levels in memorizing the Qur'an

Beginner

For those who do not know how to read and write Arabic language,they need to study the letters from the beginning, to be fully aware of how to read the Quran. One of the most famous approaches used in this case is the book Noor al-Bayan or al-Nouraniyah Rule. These books follow the approach of learning to read from the Qur’an

There are some methods used as well, such as:

  • The Baghdadi method of teaching Arabic; For Sheikh "Mustafa Al-Jundi”.
  • The Noorani Way for Sheikh “Nour Haqqany”
  • The Meccan method in Mecca.
  • Medinaway in the Medina
Intermediate
  • For the student who knows the Arabic letters but cannot read from the Mushaf, he needs a lot of prompting, recitation and training to read from the Mushaf in order to be able to recite the Quran as it should.
  • Here we must point out the importance of memorization and word of mouth because the student is able to pronounce the Arabic letter, but his problem is that he cannot read the Quran, and the Quran can only be read orally.
Advanced
For the student who can read the Quran, but he has many hidden mistakes
Expert
For the student who is skilled in reading and proficient in his recitation, but he lacks some techniques and skills that fully qualify him to take the Ejaza.

Teaching and memorizing the Quran plans

(for children and adults)

For children under six

Studying the Arabic letters and how to read the Quran correctly first by using one of the curricula for teaching Arabic reading that helps in learning the Quran.

Indoctrination and recitation
  • Directly from the mouth of the teacher in memorizing any verse of the Quran.
  • The teacher repeats the verse three times and the student listens only while looking at the Quran.
  • The teacher reads the verse and then asks the student to repeat it.
  • The teacher asks the student to read on their own.
  • And so, he continues until he finishes the daily goal (Werdورد ), and if the verse is long, then it is divided into two or three times
Mastery of Tajweed
  • Practically by recitation without addressing the theoretical rules at this stage.
Method of memorization and review
  • Three lines are memorized every day during the first month, then gradually increased according to the child's ability to memorize and master how to pronounce the letters correctly.
  • Upon completion of memorizing half of a part, the time is divided into two parts: a new memorization section and a revision section for what has been memorized.
  • Half a page is saved with a review of at least two pages every day that increases when you finish memorizing a full part.
The expected time for memorizing one part (Joza’) of the Quran
  • If an hour each day, he would finish the part in four months

For children between 6 and 12

At this stage, the student must have passed the stage of learning Arabic letters and be able to read from the Quran, and the student must differentiate between reading Arabic and reading the Quran, because the Quran has special provisions that the reader must abide by.

Indoctrination and recitation
  • The first week is determined to improve the reading of the Quran in a way that the student hears from the teacher and repeats.
  • The student begins to memorize after hearing the daily goal (Werdورد ) from his teacher and repeating and reading from the Quran himself.
Mastery of Tajweed
  • The student needs to practice and master the rules (Tajweed) practically, and this only comes through learning, repeating from the teacher, and correcting mistakes.
Method of memorization and review
  • Memorizing every day for half a page and increasing gradually according to the student's ability.
  • When the student finishes memorizing half of a part (Joza’), he will begin to review what he memorized in addition to his new memorization.
The expected time for memorizing one part (Joza’) of the Quran
  • If an hour each day, he would finish the part in 2 months

Over 12 years old

At this stage, the student must have passed the stage of learning Arabic letters and be able to read from the Quran, and the student must differentiate between reading Arabic and reading the Quran, because the Quran has special provisions that the reader must abide by.

  • After the student masters how to pronounce the letters correctly, he begins to memorize his daily response (ten lines) a page to a quarter
  • Increase to a page after he has finished memorizing one part (Joza’)
  • The student reviews five pages every day after completing memorizing a part (Joza’).
The expected time for memorizing one part (Joza’) of the Quran
  • If an hour each day, he would finish the part in 1 month or 40 days

This program depends on the student's level, character, ability to memorize, and the number of classes per week.
